The simplified single-screen experience will likely tempt me back someday, but for now, this is tantalizingly close to monitor perfection. I usually only turn the second monitor on for work, and when I do, I feel more productive than ever. Also, you don’t need to move the mouse across as often–one of the main annoyances of the dual-screen setup. The portrait display reduces your need to scroll, whether you're reading a report or article, working on a spreadsheet or database, or scrolling through Slack threads. They don't have to be uber-expensive either. From the enhanced view of maps and battlefields in Total War: Warhammer III to the peripheral vision in Halo: Infinite, ultrawide screens just make it easier to play, and I feel as though they give me an edge. Games feel more immersive on an ultrawide. Quibbles aside, this setup offers the best of both worlds. I am slowly training myself to swivel my chair rather than twist my body, and I'm learning to live with the mismatched orientations. This combo doesn’t fix the crick-inducing need to look off to the left, and it’s not symmetrical.
I paired a central curved 34-inch ultrawide and added a 27-inch screen in portrait orientation.

At this point, Windows 10 may tell you that you need to sign-out and back in again before some apps on your PC respond to the new scaling settings.Eventually, I went back to a dual-screen setup but with a twist. The complete process starts with choosing your second monitor. With ultrawide displays, you get 33 of extra horizontal screen space in comparison to a single 16:9 display, meaning that dual monitors provide more workspace than an ultrawide. Now that we’ve applied different scaling settings we have to do a little clean-up. Stacked dual monitors have a significant space advantage over other dual monitor setups. The larger 1080p monitor, however, would be easier for my tired eyes to handle with a little scaling applied. In this case, the laptop monitor is highlighted in blue, but I don’t want to change the scaling for this display-the 1920-by-1080 view automatically scaled to 125% is just fine. Before you start changing the scaling, check to see which monitor is highlighted. Make sure your cables are connected properly to the new monitors, then press Windows logo key + P to select a display option. It used to be a slider in earlier versions of Windows 10, but because this feature defaults to certain scaling pre-sets, a drop down made more sense. Lower down the screen under Scale and layout you’ll see a drop-down menu labeled Change the size of text, apps, and other items: X% (Recommended).
